Community Engagement Initiatives: Project HOPE Funding for Local Grassroots Projects

Project Hope Grant Awards

In our last post, we explored how the PUP Grant helps turn ideas into action. But what if your starting point isn’t just an idea? Instead, it’s your neighbors, your block, and your community.

That’s where Project HOPE Grant comes in.

  • Application period opens June 1 and closes July 31.
  • Free support available, including program officers, training, and a project toolkit.

What is Project HOPE?

Project HOPE is an initiative designed to support grassroots projects that bring people together through:

  • Volunteerism
  • Community engagement initiatives
  • Relationship-building

In 2025, Project HOPE invested $73,550 in six grassroots projects across Martinsville-Henry County. From youth-led movie nights and community gardens to historic walking tours and neighborhood clean-up efforts, these projects show what’s possible when neighbors come together to create positive change.

This program offers up to $15,000 for small, community-driven projects with immediate impact. At its core, it’s about building connections, strengthening neighborhoods, and creating opportunities for residents to take an active role in shaping Martinsville-Henry County. Proposals are reviewed by a committee of local “hope builders,” ensuring that funding decisions reflect the community itself.

Who Should Apply?

Project HOPE is designed to be accessible.

You don’t need to be an established nonprofit to get started. Community groups, residents, and organizations are all encouraged to apply. If you don’t have nonprofit status, support is available to help you secure a fiscal sponsor.

If you have an idea that brings people together and creates positive change, this program is for you.
