Small Grants Program

The Pick Up the Pace! (PUP) Grant Program is a competitive, small-grants program designed to engage people and organizations in the transformation of MHC through expanded conversation and action around community issues. This small grant program supports smaller local efforts with a streamlined grant application and review process, with grants up to $25,000. The goal is to spark growth, collaborations and positive change that will help to “pick up the pace” towards creating a community where everyone shares in the promise of an MHC that is healthy, prosperous, and vibrant. Eligibility Criteria

Grant recipients must be a recognized nonprofit organization, faith-based institution, or local governmental entity. The recipient can be a “fiscal sponsor” for others if the purpose is charitable.
Produce results that will positively impact the residents in the Foundation’s service area of Martinsville and Henry County.
While not required, preference will be given to projects that closely align with the Harvest Foundation’s strategic priorities.
Funds must be used for charitable purposes and benefit communities or neighborhoods, rather than just the applicant’s constituents.
Funded projects must be completed in 12 months or less.

Application Proposal

The online application can be accessed through the Harvest Foundation website. Applicant organizations are asked to provide information explaining the idea/project with amount requested and any matching cash and/or in-kind contributions; the project description should include community benefits, anticipated results, timeline for implementation (within one year or less), strategic partners, and long-term impact on the community.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to contact a program officer prior to submitting an application. Proposals will be reviewed by Foundation staff with award decisions typically made in 30 business days.

PUP Grant Restrictions

The PUP Grant Program does not consider funding for:

General core programs or operations because of budget shortfalls and budget cuts
Grants to individuals, faith-based institutions for religious activities, or for dinners, fundraisers, or sponsorships
Grants to for-profit entities or efforts
Grants that supplant or substitute for existing funding
Requests that cannot be completed in one year or less or require more than $25,000 from the Harvest Foundation
