Harvest Youth Board excited for upcoming W. Dan Prince III Thanksgiving Eve Dinner

  • November 15, 2023
Volunteers at the 2022 W. Dan Prince III Thanksgiving Eve Dinner prepare meals to be served and delivered.

Harvest Youth Board continues tradition of annual community meal

Martinsville, Va. — The Harvest Youth Board is delighted to hold the 6th annual W. Dan Prince III Thanksgiving Eve Dinner. The dinner will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023, from 1-4 p.m. at Martinsville High School.

The free, traditional Thanksgiving meal will be available for dine-in, carryout and delivery. Martinsville and Henry County community members wishing to order a meal for delivery should call (276) 293-9657 by midnight on Sunday, Nov. 19, 2023. Individuals dining in or carrying out meals do not require reservations. The menu consists of a traditional Thanksgiving meal — turkey, stuffing, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, bread and a cookie.

Continuing the tradition from last year, families with children under 12 will receive a book. For this year’s event, the Harvest Youth Board has selected a themed book titled “Thankful” by Eileen Spinelli to distribute among families. The board remains committed to promoting literacy by integrating books into the annual Thanksgiving Eve Dinner, aligning with the current board’s emphasis on literacy.

Over 2,800 meals were served with more than 200 volunteers at last year’s dinner. The event is a wonderful opportunity for the Martinsville and Henry County community to unite for a wonderful cause. “The Thanksgiving Eve Dinner is not about the Harvest Youth Board, it’s about the community, ” said Ava Grant, special events chair and board vice chair.

Volunteers play a crucial role in ensuring the success of the dinner. Their responsibilities include cooking, serving, and delivering meals. To serve as a delivery driver, individuals must be 18 years or older and a licensed driver. Those interested in volunteering can visit www.harvestyouthboard.org to register. Registration for volunteers closes on November 15th, 2023. However, individuals, especially those interested in being delivery drivers, are welcome to participate on the day of the event.

Madison Crowe, a Harvest Youth Board member, shared her enthusiasm for the event and its significant impact on the community. “Being able to serve and bring joy to my community during Thanksgiving while hosting the dinner is an unforgettable opportunity,” she said.

The positive impact of the dinner on the community has deeply excited Harvest Youth Board members. According to Nayti Patel, chair of the Harvest Youth Board, “The dinner fosters unity, enabling volunteers and attendees to connect during the holiday season.”
