From the desk of Harvest Foundation President Kate Keller
November, in all its color and change of season, is the perfect time for reflection and gratitude. We have all been through so much change and instability for much of the past two years, that maybe this practice might get lost. I encourage you to spend some time thinking about what you are grateful for.
This is my second November in this community and I continue to be grateful for its beauty and warmth. This Fall offered beautiful days for walks on the trails and enjoying the Smith River. We made a trip along the Blue Ridge Parkway just to see the leaves (and they were spectacular). I also really appreciate that it is always 10-15 degrees warmer here than Ohio and the skies tend to be sunnier.
In addition to the physical beauty, I am grateful for the community and everyone’s willingness to support Harvest through its strategic planning process. We will launch our plan in January, and you will find that our work will be community-driven and in areas the community said we needed to focus.
So many people participated in focus groups, workgroups, or took our community survey. Our hardworking Board of Directors participated in more meetings than any of us could count.
Why did people do this? Because everyone is committed to making a better future for MHC and for that, I am grateful.
Finally, on a personal note, my family has settled into our new home and routine, and the transition seems to be over. If you have ever moved your family, you know what I mean. They continue to support me and our decision to uproot our lives in the hopes of making a difference in MHC.
As we begin the wrap-up of 2021, what are you grateful for?
I hope you take some time to enjoy the scenery and reflect.
