The plan to expand the trail system around Martinsville and Henry County took a quick step down the road on Tuesday afternoon.
The Henry County Board of Supervisors unanimously endorsed the updated Rivers & Trails Recreational Use Plan for Martinsville/Henry County, which would add to existing trails and recreational areas and connect communities.
“The master plan for outdoor recreational amenities is a tangible statement for a community to talk about their natural resources and what we can do to preserve and promote them and how we can move forward and utilize these opportunities for economic benefit and also quality of life of our community,” Brian Williams, program manager for Dan River Basin Association, told the supervisors. “It’s an old adage but it’s true: You don’t plant a tree expecting to sit under the shade. The same type of thing with these type of plans, although we have moved very rapidly on much of the work we have done in Henry County since I’ve been here.”
