The Harvest Foundation awarded the Martinsville-Henry County Family YMCA a Pick Up the Pace! grant of $4,125 to complete a needs assessment and market study for the organization.

The YMCA will use PB & A, a research firm based out of Bradenton, Fla., to conduct a study into the community’s reaction to an enhanced facility in Martinsville. The research will provide data and analysis regarding the scope of opportunities and challenges for an expansion of the YMCA facility and its programs.

“The Martinsville-Henry County YMCA remains an important asset in our community,” said DeWitt House, senior program officer at The Harvest Foundation. “We commend the YMCA on its decision to gather high-quality data that will shape future plans for the organization, and identify the best path forward in growth and sustainability.”

Brad Kinkema, CEO and executive director of the YMCA, said he is excited to have the support of The Harvest Foundation as the strategic planning process for the facility moves forward.

“The YMCA Board of Directors has engaged in a strategic plan that seeks to grow the Y’s community impact in healthy living, youth development and social responsibility,” Kinkema said. “Part of this strategic planning process is to determine what additional programs, services and/or facilities the community wants, needs and will support. This grant is critical because it allows the Y to continue the strategic planning process by conducting a needs assessment and market research to ensure the end result of the strategic plan is doable, and will result in the needed programs, services and facilities the community desires from the Y.”

According to a prospectus provided by PB & A, the needs assessment and market study will provide unbiased data and experienced analysis that will provide valuable data to the YMCA regardless of the final decision to move forward with any renovations or expansion.

YMCA also received support from Carter Bank & Trust and Sale Foundation for this project. Find out more by visiting www.martinsvilleymca.com
