MARTINSVILLE – Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC) officials say they are astonished at the number of high school seniors who have signed up for a program that will enable them to earn a two-year college degree at no cost.
The SEED Fund is a $3.1 million initiative by The Harvest Foundation.
High school graduates this year, and during the next two years, who live in Martinsville-Henry County, are accepted at PHCC and meet the fund’s criteria will have their tuition, textbooks and fees paid by the foundation for up to 2 ½ years while they earn associate’s degrees or other desired credentials.
As of Monday, exactly 300 students had signed up for the program. That includes 117 at Bassett High School, 102 at Magna Vista High School, 72 at Martinsville High School, two at Carlisle School and two who are being homeschooled.
