MARTINSVILLE – Despite at times cool and overcast weather, several hundred people came to uptown Martinsville Saturday for the Cinco de Mayo street festival, which organizers hope, over time, will become a spring equivalent of the popular Oktoberfest.
Amanda Witt, president of the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce, who was dressed warmly in the chill, said she thought the weather kept more people from coming to Saturday’s street festival. She hopes over time it will grow. Oktoberfest, she noted, typically attracts 8,000 to 10,000 people.
The several hundred people who attended the festival are people who would not have been uptown on Saturday, she noted.
