Henry County School Board Appoints Teddy Martin II to Reed Creek District Seat

April 18, 2017

The School Board of Henry County appointed Teddy Martin II Tuesday as the interim board member to fill the Reed Creek District seat left vacant after the death of Betsy Mattox in March.

Martin, an HR Benefits Specialist at Patrick Henry Community College, said he will run for the seat in November. “I am honored and humbled by this selection and recognize the faith put in me by the Board. I look forward to serving the residents of the Reed Creek District and Henry County as a whole. I am excited to make education in our community even better than it already is.”

The school board has 45 days to elect or appoint a qualified voter of the election district as an interim member to hold the vacant seat until the November election. Martin will have all the authorities and powers of the other school board members and will serve until the person elected during the special election qualifies and takes the oath of office.

The School Board interviewed three candidates during closed session on Tuesday and announced their appointment prior to adjourning the meeting, continued from the Board’s regularly scheduled monthly meeting on April 6.

“We had three outstanding candidates. It was a very hard decision to make; however, we selected the best candidate and I look forward to working with him," said Curtis Millner, board chairman.

Division Superintendent Dr. Jared Cotton said, “I’m looking forward to working with Mr. Martin in this new capacity. I know that his passion and dedication for Henry County Public Schools will support us on our continued journey to strengthening education opportunities for the children in our community.”

Martin’s first official meeting is the board's regular meeting on Thursday, May 4.
