MARTINSVILLE–She was shocked. Not just that she had been selected as a candidate, but Fieldale-Collinsville Middle School teacher Karen Adams was surprised that she won. Adams recently took home an award at the Southern Virginia STEM-H Education and Industry Achievement Awards ceremony.
To be eligible to receive an award at the annual ceremony, nominated individuals, organizations, partnerships and programs must occur, work or have locations in the Southern Virginia footprint of Franklin, Halifax, Henry, Mecklenburg, Patrick or Pittsylvania Counties and Danville or Martinsville Cities. Working at Fieldale-Collinsville, Adams fit the bill.
At the awards ceremony, she emerged as STEM-H Educator of the Year.
“When I saw the other nominees, I was shocked that I won,” Adams said. “But I am very honored.”
Looking over the educator’s track record of success with STEM-related programs, it’s no wonder she took home one of the top awards.
