Martinsville Bulletin: Harvest says door open for future NCI funding

MARTINSVILLE – The Harvest Foundation is not unwilling to fund the New College Institute (NCI), its executives maintain, despite the school’s access to what remains from a $50 million grant being withdrawn.

“If it aligns with our objectives, we’ll be a willing investor” in the institute in the future, said Dewitt House, the foundation’s senior program officer.

How much NCI would get cannot be determined now, House said – that would be based on what the institute seeks money for, how much is requested and how much Harvest officials believe it would benefit the community.

Harvest was established in 2002 to invest proceeds from the sale of Memorial Hospital in Martinsville into local health, education and community vitality improvement initiatives.
