MARTINSVILLE, VA – Whether starting a new career or earning continuing education credits, students at Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC) can now do so for a third of the price in select programs. Other financial assistance may be available to help pay for that portion. In many cases, the training requires only a few months or a few weeks.
Students that register for Workforce Credential Grant funded programs pay only one-third of the cost of tuition upfront. The funding is based on a “pay-for-performance” formula which requires students to successfully complete the course and obtain a certification for the grant to be fully awarded. PHCC offers eight programs that are covered by this grant and all are offered this coming semester:
|Workforce Credential Training Program||Start Date|
|Commercial Driver's License||January 9|
|Certified Nurse Aide||January 9|
|Certified Production Technician||January 31|
|Clinical Medical Assistant||February 20|
|Medication Aide||March 7|
|Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS)||March 7|
|Electrical Groundsman Training||April 3|
|Phlebotomy Technician||June 20|
Research indicates that Virginia had more than 175,000 job vacancies for credentialed employees last year. On average in Virginia, these jobs pay more than $28 per hour (or more than $58,500 per year).
